There are a lot of things in life that are there just to distract, rough drafts is not one of them. The rough drafting process is something that I hold with high regards, the process of throwing up all your ideas onto the page, especially if it is on paper, is paramount to having a good piece in anything that is worth your while. We often try to skip this and get the vision perfectly the first time onto the page for simplicity but in reality that’s actually backwards because no one gets it perfect on the first try, even Thomas Edison had plenty of attempts before he came up with the lightbulb. When you take your time in making a rough draft you are not only organizing your ideas and laying the groundwork but you also allow yourself some time to edit it as you review your rough draft as you can see on mine. Through the editing of your rough draft you brighten and clarify your idea, bringing it from a raw tree to a well made house. Going into my idea I find myself constantly one thousand miles away in some beautiful place in nature, thinking how calm while still being chaotic it would be in those places snapping back into reality to realize society has traded and sold out beauty for utility and saving money. Being from Seattle where the clouds are usually gray and it’s rainy which amplifies the gray background of the city with all of its concrete and mute colors.
